Rustenburg – Rustenburg Lions Club held its second annual art exhibition at the Rustenburg local library on 4 October where young artists had the opportunity to display their talent.

This competition formed part of an exciting international arts competition.
The theme for this year’s competition was kindness matters. Entries were received from learners of Laerskool Protea Park, Laerskool Vastrap, Laerskool Rustenburg, Kloof View Primary School, Rutanang Primary Education Centre, Lebone II College of the Royal Bafokeng and Fields College.

Ayanda Fono, a grade seven student at Rutanang Primary Education Centre was awarded first place for the first round in Rustenburg on 11 October. He received a cash prize of R1,000 sponsored by Rustenburg Lions Club and his artwork framed by Kuns en Kwas, plus additional prizes from Inkpot and Spur Rustenburg.

Ayanda’s poster was among more than 600,000 entries submitted worldwide in the 31st annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Lions Clubs International is sponsoring the contest to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere. The International Peace Poster Contest was open to all learners between the ages of 11 and 13.

With regards to the theme, ‘kindness matters’ 12-year old Ayanda from Rustenburg: “A friend is showing kindness by giving a helping hand to a someone in need”. Ayanda and the other top five Rustenburg entrants will represent Rustenburg on district-level and hopefully advance to the following rounds.

In Rustenburg’s preliminary competition round, the second place went to Minke Grobler from Laerskool Proteapark, third place to Liz Hermandez from Fields College, fourth place to Micheal Visser from Laerskool Rustenburg and fifth place went to Robyn-Lee Wentzel also from Laerskool Proteapark.
