Water quality concerns noted in Rustenburg Local Municipality supply area 

Rustenburg - Magalies Water acknowledges the recent water quality complaints received in the Rustenburg Local Municipal area of supply. The discoloured water experienced in recent days was primarily due to the pipeline repair work carried out on the Bospoort pipeline on Saturday 25 November 2023. The raw water quality has also deteriorated amid the extreme heat wave and Magalies Water is taking corrective measures such as changing the abstraction level with the Department of Water and Sanitation. 

The raw water has high levels of manganese which has adverse aesthetic effects when found in high concentrations exceeding 0.1 Omg/L Magalies Water stresses that there are no health effects at these concentrations, however there will be marginal aesthetic effects and water will be slightly discoloured. 
Magalies Water regrets the inconvenience that this has caused, and is working with the necessary speed, to ensure that water quality in the system improves and returns to normality.
