Rustenburg – The Marikana Youth Centre buzzed with energy and pride on Wednesday, 9 July 2025, as Afrika Tikkun, in partnership with Sibanye-Stillwater and community stakeholders, celebrated the centre’s first anniversary — a year marked by growth, resilience, and empowerment.

With the theme “A Year of Impact. A Future of Possibility,” the event showcased how much can be achieved when community, corporate partners, and civil society unite for youth development. The centre, a collaboration between Afrika Tikkun, Sibanye-Stillwater, Scania, and the Get It Done Foundation, has already changed hundreds of young lives in just 12 months.

Guests were treated to vibrant performances by local children and youth, including poetry, choir, and dance displays — a celebration of both creativity and confidence. Afrika Tikkun’s work-readiness candidates also took the stage with moving presentations that highlighted the transformative power of opportunity.

“This is more than just a celebration,” said Agnes Sibanda, Group Head: Scale and Outreach at Afrika Tikkun. “It is a reaffirmation of our shared commitment to building sustainable futures for South Africa’s youth. One year in, and we are only just beginning.”

The numbers speak volumes:

  • Over 650 youth trained in employability and digital skills
  • 312 learners supported academically and guided in career choices
  • More than 80% of participants reported improved self-confidence and a renewed sense of purpose

The Marikana Youth Centre follows Afrika Tikkun’s award-winning Cradle-to-Career 360° model, which provides holistic support from early childhood through to economic independence.

As Afrika Tikkun looks to expand its reach, the Marikana Youth Centre stands tall as a model of what’s possible when purpose and partnership walk hand-in-hand. The celebration not only marked a milestone — it ignited a promise of many more to come.
