Rustenburg – From bush cutting to clothing donations, Our Ward Matters (OWM) is proving that teamwork and care make Rustenburg a better place. Led by André van Dyk and Cllr Tanya Rothman, the initiative serves both Ward 17 and Ward 16 (Geelhoutpark).

This week’s Ward 17 Litter Day saw teams collecting rubbish across Helen Joseph Drive, Osmand Gazi, and Cuckoo Avenue — living up to the motto: “Give a Hoot, Don’t Pollute.”

But OWM does more than just clean. With the support of Mona and Dianne from Agapé Gemeente, volunteers distributed clothing to families in need. The donation was made possible by Dianne, while Mona and Ronell from Our Ward Cares helped deliver the items to a family in difficult circumstances. “Kindness is giving hope to those who think they are all alone,” said Rothman.

The EPWP OWM team also cut overgrown grass near Krokodilrivier, cleared storm drains, and removed litter — joined for a photo by security officers from Kgaswane Nature Reserve.

Every clean-up makes a difference, but OWM needs the community’s help with petrol, equipment, and supplies.
