Rustenburg’s own success story: Afri Readymix on the Rise

Rustenburg – In just four years, Afri Readymix has become a household name in Rustenburg’s construction and mining sectors, proving that resilience and vision can turn setbacks into soaring success stories.

Founded in 2021 by managing director Gerhard Maree, Afri Readymix was born after Maree’s retrenchment from industry giant AfriSam in 2020. Instead of walking away, he negotiated the acquisition of the very plant he once managed for 15 years, breathing new life into it and laying the foundations for what would become one of Rustenburg’s most dynamic suppliers.

Alongside Maree, Afri Readymix is also steered by directors and shareholders Christie van der Mescht and Werner Weiss, who play a key role in the company’s growth and stability.

Today, Afri Readymix boasts a fleet of 18 company-owned trucks, eight subcontracted vehicles, and cutting-edge technology like the Command CE batching system – ensuring real-time monitoring, precision quality control, and optimised mix design. With mobile batching units on hand, the company can even take production to large-scale infrastructure projects such as solar farms and remote roadworks.

But Afri Readymix is about more than concrete and construction. Maree and his team remain deeply committed to uplifting the community, especially through their long-standing support of Môrester Children’s Home. In 2023 alone, the company raised R400,000 for the home through its annual charity golf day – a proud tradition that continues to grow each year.

And now, big news is stirring once again: Afri Readymix has purchased the Noordvaal building in Rustenburg, and the revamp is almost complete. With fresh energy and modern finishes, the building is already turning heads and promises to become another symbol of growth and opportunity in the city.

From its humble beginnings to industry leader, Afri Readymix is mixing strength, innovation, and heart – cementing not only foundations but also a legacy in Rustenburg.
