Join the SPCA’s Blikskud for the Animals
Rustenburg – The Rustenburg Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is once again calling on the community to lend a hand — and a few spare coins — to support animals in need. A blikskud (tin collection) will be held at the robot before the Waterfall Mall on Saturday, 27 September 2025, and volunteers are urgently needed to make the day a success.
The SPCA’s work relies heavily on community involvement, and sometimes the smallest contributions make the biggest difference. Earlier this year, on 6 June 2025, Platinum Weekly highlighted the inspiring story of 13-year-old Laerskool Vastrap learner, Ulrich Webber, who chose to dedicate his Landservice project to helping the SPCA. From bathing and playing with the animals, to joining tin collection days, Ulrich has shown how one young person can make a meaningful impact. Instead of pocket money, he even asks relatives to donate towards the animals when he does gardening on weekends.
“Ulrich has set an example for all of us,” says Lorraine van der Merwe, chairperson of the Rustenburg SPCA. “Every volunteer, no matter how young or old, helps us give vulnerable animals a voice.”
