FROM VELD TO VICTORY
How OWM turns hard work into hope
Platinum Weekly Newspaper | Rustenburg – While many slowed down for the festive season, Our Ward Matters (OWM) accelerated its efforts, delivering impactful clean-ups across Wards 16 and 17. Led by André van Dyk, with Cllr Tanya Rothman, the EPWP team, and committed volunteers, OWM once again proved that real community change is built through consistency, care, and boots on the ground.
3 December:
The team transformed Tamarisk Avenue (Ward 16), clearing rubbish, cutting grass, and debushing until the area resembled a park. Clean-ups continued through Wildevy, Moepel and Kruger Street before moving to Azaleapark/ Selly Park (Ward 17), where grass-cutting and rubbish removal restored several neighbourhood corners. Community donations kept fuel in the tanks and spirits high.
4 December:
In Dachill, OWM cut grass, cleared illegal dumping on the mountain side, and cleaned roadways from Protea Avenue down to Cuckoo Avenue. Residents offered donations and cooldrinks — small acts of kindness that kept a tired team inspired.
5 December:
A heartfelt tribute was shared to the early supporters who believed in OWM when it was only an idea. Pastor Doug and Liza Morkel of GrowthPoint Church were especially thanked for standing with the team from the very beginning.
10 December:
In Ward 16, OWM cleared dumping sites near the Rustenburg Recreation Centre, cut long grass along Geelhout and Wildevy, and improved traffic visibility at Helen Joseph and Mispel. Joined by Cllr Jean Keyser, Cllr Tanya Rothman and activist Michael Rothman, the team restored safety and natural beauty to the area.
