Rustenburg – From bush cutting to rubbish removal, Our Ward Matters (OWM) once again proved that transformation starts with teamwork. Led by André van Dyk and Cllr Tanya Rothman, and supported by the EPWP team, OWM rolled up their sleeves to bring visible change to Wards 16 and 17 — even with the rain trying to slow them down! Every week, so much hard work, and so much heart.

Rolling Up Sleeves in Geelhoutpark | 5 November

Residents of Ward 16 woke to see OWM in action across Cycad & Santolina, Kremetart, and Manuka Avenue, with follow-up work at Geelhout Gardens. Joining the effort were Cllr Jean Keyser, Cllr Tanya Rothman, volunteers, and local activists.

Cleanup and a Braai! | 6 November

The Kremetart and Manuka Avenue clean-up was nothing short of inspiring. OWM’s two teams tackled the area from SPAR Manuka to Geelhout Gardens and across Cycad & Santolina. Grass cutting, litter collection, and teamwork transformed the space — and for the first time ever, the team celebrated with a well-deserved braai!

A special thank-you goes to Tom and Patricia from Phokeng for sponsoring the water, cooldrinks, wors, and buns — and to Michael Rothman for expertly manning the grill. Gratitude also goes to Grant and his staff at Geelhout Gardens for maintaining their surroundings so beautifully.

Our Ward Cares

While cleaning up, Our Ward Cares — OWM’s charity division — extended kindness beyond streets and parks. Thanks to a recommendation and a generous donation of boys’ clothing from Jo Anne Burger, Ronel Peyper will ensure these clothes reach children in need.

Lighting Hearts this Christmas | 11 November

In collaboration with Emmanuel Sorg NPC, OWM is helping fulfil Christmas wishes for eight children of different ages. Each child’s wish is being met through the caring hearts of Obakeng Molefe, Marilyn Nel, Cllr Tanya Rothman, André van Dyk, and Ilse du Preez.

After the Rain, We Rise | 12 November

Even after the rain, OWM’s spirit didn’t waver. Under Cllr Tanya Rothman’s leadership, teams tackled Krokodilrivier (from house 89 past Little Margate to Rockridge View) and Palalarivier behind the houses — restoring order and pride in the Rivers area.
