Platinum Weekly newspaper | Rustenburg – Job Shimankana Tabane (JST) Hospital has issued an urgent appeal to the community to promptly collect discharged patients, warning that delays are causing serious strain on the facility.

According to the hospital, many patients who have been medically cleared to go home remain in hospital beds for days because family members do not arrive to fetch them. These beds could instead be used for new or seriously ill patients in need of urgent care. Hospital management says the issue is worsened by outdated or incorrect next-of-kin contact details in patient files, making communication difficult or impossible.

“We simply cannot reach families when numbers are wrong or no longer in use,” says acting CEO Ellen Dineo Moromane.

The hospital is calling on community members to ensure that their contact details are correct when visiting the facility, and to respond quickly when notified that their loved ones are ready for discharge. “Please help us to help the community,” Moromane added. “A simple act — collecting a discharged patient — frees a bed for someone who truly needs it.”
