WHERE HOPE GETS ITS HANDS DIRTY
Our Ward Matters cleans, cares and connects Rustenburg
Platinum Weekly Newspaper | Rustenburg – From clearing thick veld to delivering donations, Our Ward Matters (OWM) once again proved that real change happens through consistent, hands-on service. Led by André van Dyk with Cllr Tanya Rothman and the EPWP team, OWM spent the week uplifting Wards 16 and 17, despite rain slowing progress but never stopping it.
26 November — open space and Helen Joseph
OWM cleared grass and rubbish at the taxi “open space” and around TOTAL Tuscany, thanks to residents’ donations and the garage’s sponsored petrol. The team then completed a full clean-up down Helen Joseph Drive.
27 November — Kremetart to Santolina
OWM cleaned both sides of Kremetart, removed illegal dumping, and addressed complaints near Geelhout Gardens. The team collected rubbish through Manuka, Cycad, and Santolina, filling the RLM skip. Partnership with the RLM Waste Department continues to strengthen weekly clean-ups.
29 November — Giving to Hospice Rustenburg
OWM donated a bed and household items to Hospice Rustenburg, made possible by generous residents supporting Our Ward Cares.
1 December — Cycad, Lilac and Manuka
The team debushed around Cycad and Santolina, cut grass behind homes, and collected enough rubbish to fill the RLM skip. They continued clearing around the Lilac Substation and cleaned down to Manuka Substation. A resident’s surprise food and drinks lifted spirits on a long workday.
2 December — Pendoring Spruitjie and Cantua Place
OWM cut long overgrown grass, cleared reeds for visibility, and removed rubbish at Pendoring Spruitjie, later moving to Cantua Place to begin a long-term safety project. Illegal dumping remains a challenge, and residents are urged to help keep the area clean.
