Platinum Weekly newspaper | Rustenburg – While many residents eased into the festive slowdown, Our Ward Matters (OWM) began the year with visible action, rolling out a series of community clean-ups across Wards 16 and 17 to improve safety, cleanliness, and pride in shared spaces.

14 January
OWM led two clean-ups in two wards, clearing overgrown bushes, removing large volumes of dumped rubbish, and cutting grass at key points including Wildevy Avenue, Kruger Street, and near Wildevy Centrum. Hidden gardens and neglected spaces were uncovered, showing strong potential for future beautification.

The team continued intensive work by filling a long-standing excavation hole, clearing heavily overgrown vegetation at Timbati Veld, and opening the water canal between Watervalrivier and Krokodilrivier to restore safety and visibility.

19 January
OWM returned to Wildevy Avenue and Kruger Street, further clearing bushes near Rustenburg Baptiste Kerk and cleaning surrounding streets and open areas. The clean-up made a visible difference around Protea Park and the Kruger Bridge, despite challenges posed by unsafe conditions deeper in the veld.

20 January
Work began at the corner of Cycad and Santolina Avenue, a key access route used daily by residents, where heavy illegal dumping and overgrown veld were addressed. Additional rubbish removal took place along Cycad Avenue and near Fiddlewood Place, with more areas identified for follow-up.

Azaleapark and Sellypark – Community Safety Focus
Residents gathered to identify key access points needing improved visibility and monitoring, including entrances from the highway and Nature’s View. Our Ward Matters encouraged stronger community participation in CCTV and safety initiatives, emphasising that security is a shared responsibility.
