South Africa pushes back against Foot-and-Mouth Disease
Platinum Publishers | South Africa continues to battle a widespread outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD), with several provinces still affected. Authorities say the disease remains a serious threat to cattle and other cloven-hoofed animals, but a large-scale response is well underway.
More than two million animals have already been vaccinated, with additional vaccines being imported to strengthen containment efforts. Government and industry partners are working together to limit the spread, while farmers are urged to follow strict movement controls.
Officials warn that illegal livestock movement remains a major challenge. Despite this, ongoing vaccination and coordinated action offer hope that the outbreak can be brought under control in the months ahead.
