PENGUINS KNOW THEIR FAMILY BY SOUND… Imagine trying to find your child in a crowd of thousands. Penguins do exactly that! In large colonies that can contain thousands of birds, parent penguins and their chicks recognise one another through unique vocal calls.

Scientists have discovered that each penguin’s call is slightly different, allowing family members to identify each other even in a noisy colony. This remarkable ability helps parents return to the correct chick after spending days at sea searching for food. It’s nature’s version of a voice print – and it works surprisingly well.
