Rustenburg – The Rustenburg Local Municipality (RLM) is improving the security at Donkerhoek Cemetery to avoid theft and vandalism.

On Monday 13 March 2023, workers could be seen removing a portion of the old fence and rolling it up, to be replaced with barbed wire. RLM spokesperson Boitumelo Mareume told Platinum Weekly that the municipality was in the process of improving security at cemeteries.

“The contractor appointed for the upgrading of Rietvlei cemetery and the fencing of Donkerhoek cemetery is responsible for the removal of the remaining old fence and installation of a new one, under the supervision of the parks and cemetery section of the municipality,” said Mareume.

The upgrades, which commenced at the beginning of March 2023, are likely to be completed before the end of April.
