Silwerrand’s Light Festival brings Christmas magic to life
Rustenburg - Laerskool Silwerrand Primary School recently celebrated the conclusion of its mesmerising five-day Light Festival on Saturday 9 December 2023. This year’s festival, adorned with a radiant array of lights and melodies, enthralled over 3,000 attendees with its enchanting ambiance.
Daniela Oosthuizen, a local enthusiast, praised the event as “an absolutely beautiful experience with a warm atmosphere,” perfectly encapsulating the spirit of the festive season. The festival’s twinkling lights and harmonious music provided a backdrop for calming walks and joyful gatherings among friends, creating a sense of unity and warmth in the Rustenburg community.
Co-director of Silwerrand Primary, Charlene Schoeman, shared her delight over the festival’s success, now in its second year. She highlighted the festival’s dual purpose: “Celebrating the festive season and supporting a noble cause. Festivalgoers were encouraged to donate to the Rustenburg Child and Family Welfare, adding a layer of community spirit to the event. Our festival values are: We celebrate the birth of Jesus [our Salvation], we celebrate family time with gratitude, and we celebrate children’s smiles and excited hearts”.
This year’s festival not only marked a significant increase in attendance but also reinforced its status as a cherished tradition in Rustenburg, weaving a tapestry of festive cheer and community solidarity. As the lights dimmed on this year’s event, the echoes of its success promise an even brighter future for the festival.
