CASH HEIST CHAOS IN CBD
Suspect shoots himself after getting shot
Rustenburg — A violent Cash-in-Transit (CIT) robbery erupted outside KwikSave Fresh and Frozen in Fatima Bhayat Street, CBD Rustenburg, early Wednesday morning, 19 November 2025 — leaving one suspect dead.
What began as a routine cash collection turned into a dramatic street confrontation at around 07:00, when armed suspects ambushed two security officers carrying out their daily rounds.
According to the Hawks and SAPS, three suspects targeted the security official who had just collected cash. Armed, aggressive and intent on a fast grab, they disarmed him and seized the money — an undisclosed amount — before chaos unfolded.
Shot, then self-inflicted fatal wound
In the heat of the robbery, the second security officer — who remained inside the cash van — opened fire, hitting one of the suspects in the waist.
As he staggered away, the injured suspect shot twice toward the cash van, then turned the gun on himself, dying on the scene before emergency services arrived.
Suspects fled with cash
The remaining suspects fled on foot with the cash bag after abandoning their blue SUV. A major police manhunt is now underway.
Brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae, acting Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2 commissioner, called the robbery a “brazen act that put innocent lives at risk”.
