Rustenburg – The Crime Combatting Task Team made a major breakthrough on Tuesday, 16 January, when they apprehended a 52-year old man for fraud in the Central Business District (CBD).

The police made the arrest after receiving information of a suspect who was in possession of instruments he uses to con unsuspecting victims out of their hard-earned cash. The suspect was successfully traced and found in possession of counterfeit notes and pamphlets.

Preliminary investigations revealed that as part of defrauding members of the public, the suspect posed as a professor, a pastor and a Sangoma. Investigations into the matter including linking the suspect to other cases continue.

“We urge the community to be aware of people who promise to multiply your money; this is a scam! Be aware of advertisements that promise instant wealth and happiness,” says lieutenant colonel Pelonomi Makau, police spokesperson.
