Rustenburg – A police crime blitz netted 56 suspects in Rustenburg during operation Fiella II which lasted for two days, Thursday and Friday 15 and 16 March.

The swoop was part of a concerted police effort which culminated in the arrest of 280 suspects in the province’s seven police clusters, according to a provincial commissioner, lieutenant general Baile Motswenyane.

The crime statistics given listed 133 as suspects arrested for assaults and 17 for common robbery, whilst 17 were apprehended for malicious damage to property. Fifteen of the suspects were held for rape and 22 for burglary in residential and business areas. Sixteen suspects were arrested for theft and the rest were nabbed for numerous other offences. “Of these arrests, 68 were for crimes against women and children,” said lieutenant colonel Pelonomi Makau, police spokesperson. 

The targeted clusters were Rustenburg, Brits, Mafikeng, Klerksdorp, Zeerust, Pudumoe and Vryburg.
Motswenyane lauded the members for their hard work that led to the success. She said that the police will continue with various operations to make certain that perpetrators are brought to book.
