Rustenburg/ Phokeng – South Africans who are hungry for miracles are increasingly falling victim to false prophets who operate outside busy shopping centres.

False prophets are now taking their money-making miracle schemes to places that are teeming with shoppers and ATM’s.

According to police, unsuspecting victims at the Phokeng Mall, just outside Rustenburg are making a bee-line to the police station to register complaints after losing, cash, cell phones and laptops. Police confirmed in a statement that several cases had been reported recently, most of which occurred during the week.

It is alleged that complainants were approached by an unknown male,  asking for directions. After approaching the victims, the deceitful prophet will then give a prophecy and inform the victims about their financial challenges, relationship status and other social challenges. It is alleged that these prophecies appeared to be real to some of the victims. The latter would then be informed about a miracle prayer to resolve all their challenges.

The victim and unknown prophet will then walk towards a garage near the mall, where a vehicle is parked and they will get inside the vehicle. The unsuspecting victims will then be hypnotised and robbed during the prayer session of their personal belongings.

One victim was sent to go and buy water for the prophet at the mall and her laptop and other belongings, including cash and a cellular phone were stolen.

Police are warning the community to be careful and not to be distracted by anyone as they may fall victim. Do not speak to strangers or engage into conversation with them. Stay away from strangers.
