Third Gold Cup title
for Newrak Impala!
Rustenburg – Newrak Impala coasted to a 37-31 victory over Durbanville-Bellvile to win the 2019 Gold Cup in front of a packed crowd at the Impala Rugby Club on Sunday 7 April.
As the final score reflects, the game between the two sides lived up to its billing as both teams gave it their all while going for glory. In the end, however there could only be one winner and it was Newrak Impala who emerged the better team as they romped to a third Gold Cup title in five years.
Itu Mpete, who was instrumental for Newrak Impala with two tries, won the man of the match title while experienced Leon du Plessis made history by winning the club player of the year accolade for the third time.
It was a team effort as newcomer Siya Masuku also weighed in by contributing the most points in the match. While the victory also saw Justin Wheeler having the honour of hoisting the Gold Cup for the second time, the hard work by the team’s coaching department led by Nico Le Roux also paid off for Newrak Impala.
Supporters enjoyed food and drinks in an atmosphere that was also ideal for the whole family. Some lucky fans posed for pictures with 2007 Rugby World Cup winner and former Sharks captain John Smit, who was among the invited guests.
A big thank you to the Newrak Impala sponsors as well as Newrak Impala Rugby club’s business manager Naas Olivier, and Nelis Nel, Attie Strauss and everyone else who contributed to the team’s success.
