Rustenburg – The executive mayor of Rustenburg Local Municipality (RLM) councillor Mpho Khunou joined the masses of Rustenburg residents, who came out in numbers despite the chilly winter’s morning of Friday 28 June to be part of the #Y4R (Youth for Rustenburg) annual games held at Olympia Park Stadium.

The #Y4R was a month-long programme spearheaded by RLM to intensify the engagement between the youth of Rustenburg and the municipality to bring about the desired socio-economic shift.

The programme, which kicked off three weeks ago, laid the foundation for the month’s festivities which created dialogue and engagement with leaders from government and businesses.

Mayor Khunou said: “If we fail to acknowledge the youth, it means there is no future for this country.

We are obliged to provide support to the youth. I am also very grateful to Standard Bank, who donated school shoes.”

This adds to the municipality’s collect a shoe campaign which aims to make provision of basic amenities for school going children particularly from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The donation of more 2,000 school shoes by the banking giant is testimony to their seriousness about access to education among the youth of the country.

Having a blast at Olympia Park Stadium.
