Rustenburg/ Sun City - The 22nd annual Bestmed Cycle4CANSA challenge  was held on 24 and 25 August at Sun City International Resort and Casino

The challenge is divided into two main groups; the mountain bike (MTB) races, which took place on Saturday and the road races on Sunday morning.

The MTB race was divided into two distances, 25 km and 50km, which took cyclists in one or two loops from the sky train at the entrance of Sun City, past the Valley of Waves, over the Gary Player Golf course,  onto dirt tracks next to the Pilanesberg Nature Reserve and finally back to the start.

The road race was also divided into three distances; 1km kids ride; 70km ride or the 103km challenge. The 103km challenge has become extremely popular as it is a premier seeding race for the Cape Town Cycle Tour.

Both the 70km and 103km started at the Sun City entrance, past the Pilanesberg National Park and Mogwase on President avenue before turning onto the R510 towards Rustenburg.

At the Tsitsing four-way crossing the 103km cyclists turned east onto the R556 to pass the Bospoortdam and turn back towards Sun City at the Kanana circle. The 70km cyclists turned west onto the R556 for a straight race back to Sun City

On both days, Rustenburg Cycling Club’s (RCC) own Caitlin Thompson made the club proud by clenching podium finishes in both the 25km MTB and the 70km road races.
