New-born baby’s body found in garbage bag

Rustenburg – The lifeless body of a new-born baby was discovered by municipal workers on Friday 27 March in the CBD vicinity.

According to police spokesperson captain Elsabé Augoustides, the baby was found hidden in a plastic bag.

“We want all mothers to know that there are other options. Rather take your baby to an institution to care for it,” Augoustides said. “If the baby was stillborn, a paramedic or a doctor can declare the infant dead and you can make arrangements with a crematorium. This should never be the answer and you will face criminal charges of concealment of birth,” she added.
