Rustenburg – Congress of South Africa Trade Unions (COSATU) deputy secretary general Solly Phetoe called for the government to reign in on corruption, which he said was impacting negatively on poor people and the working class.

Phetoe, who led a COSATU march in Rustenburg on Wednesday 7 October, also expressed his concern about the impact of gender-based violence, the COVID-19 pandemic, and increasing transport costs on working people.

“We want public and reliable transport for workers in this country,” Phetoe said while addressing scores of people who participated in the march. “As COSATU, we say no to gender-based violence. Women and children must be protected. In 2017, COSATU led a march for the establishment of a state capture commission and now that this has been established, we want those implicated to be arrested and prosecuted!” he added.
