Rustenburg – The Football Academy of Rustenburg Education College (REC) Schools and Academies topped the log on the Rustenburg Local Football Association (RULFA) League this year.
Since the inception of REC Academy in 2013, the team has come a long way in playing all the junior tournaments and leagues in North West including the ABC Motsepe Cup. In October 2015, their newly constructed REC Sport field in Olifantsnek was inaugurated. Since the collapse of Departmental School Football leagues and tournaments, REC Academy has set their sights on bigger horizons!
After scoring 37 goals this season and winning 10 of the 14 matches in their group, REC Academy stood on top of the log with 32 points. REC drew two of their matches and lost only two others. Their progress and results can be viewed on: https://mysafa.net/leagues/view?season_id=3748&stream_id=5202
REC has now been promoted to compete in the prestigious SAFA SAB Regional League. The South African Breweries (SAB) Regional League is the fourth tier of domestic football in the South African football pyramid. There are 832 clubs with over 2,000 teams and 50,000 players competing in this national  competition.
Never before has a school team achieved this status! Well done coach Phila Ncube and the REC boys! The RULFA trophy now stands proudly in the REC reception until next spring, while they will vigorously defend it through the coming season!
