Swartruggens – Motorists are urged to check the condition of their vehicles, especially that of their tyres before taking to the road, after four people lost their lives in an accident along the N4 on Sunday 17 October.

Two women and two children died along the N4 between Swartruggens and Moedwil when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned after one of its tyres burst.

Three other occupants of the same vehicle sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Said North West MEC for the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management Sello Lehari: “Losing four people in one accident is tragic. Our hearts are broken, and we wish their families strength during this difficult time.

“The weather conditions are very warm and the roads can become very hot. It is therefore important for motorists to pre-inspect their vehicles before getting on the road. Please make sure your vehicle is road worthy.”
