Rustenburg – Impala Rugby Club women’s team played to a 10-10 draw when they hosted Ikageng in a lively match on Saturday 2 April.

The match was played in Rustenburg and is part of a wider initiative by the two clubs to promote the development of women’s rugby.

Women’s rugby is often overshadowed by the men’s version of the sport and Impala are looking to change this narrative.

“It was a good match, and I am happy that our women’s team played their first match,” said Impala Rugby club chairman Wynand Burger.

“The ladies and the crowd enjoyed the match and, as the score suggests, the match was a tightly contested affair,” he added.

“Players who would like to train with our women’s team are more than welcome to join us,” Burger said.

Both teams put up a great performance.
