Rustenburg – Spring has sprung, but the public swimming pool at the corner of Marais and Kruger streets is not yet open to the public this season.

We reached out the Rustenburg Local Municipality (RLM) earlier this month for comment, and also published this in our 9 September issue:

The RLM has advised that all public swimming pools under its jurisdiction will only open after the ongoing maintenance and cleaning work had been completed. The Marais Street municipal swimming pool is one of the most popular swimming pools in the platinum city. Four other swimming pools being operated by the RLM, near Ben Marais Hall, Karlienpark, Monakato and Zinniaville, are also closed at this time.

Notices that have been placed at the entrance of the swimming pools, dated 1 September 2022, reads: “This notice serves to inform the public that the pools will not open on 1 September until further notice.”

It is two weeks later… and it’s not yet clear when the cleaning initiative will be completed and when the public swimming pools will be open.

The public swimming pool along Marais Street in Rustenburg is still not open to the public.
