Rustenburg – Tragedy struck the heart of our community when young Kevin Jansen van Vuuren became one of the victims in the dreadful N4 vehicle accident near Rustenburg on 12 May 2023. With the vehicle overturning multiple times and the loss of the driver, the shadows of uncertainty hung heavily over Kevin’s future.

For the Jansen van Vuuren family, weeks turned into an agonising sea of days, marked by surgeries, waiting rooms, and fervent prayers. Then, a beacon: “He’s stable,” became the much-awaited news. However, this was merely the beginning of a painstakingly long and costly recovery process. Even now, four months post-accident, Kevin remains under hospital care.

Heartfelt messages and prayers lit up social media platforms, echoing the collective sentiments of friends, family, and notably, Rustenburg High School.

Answering this call to action, Rustenburg High School is championing a Recovery Run on Saturday, 14 October 2023.

The school grounds will be the epicentre of unity and community spirit from 07h00 onwards. Every cent raised from this Fun Run will bolster Kevin’s rehabilitation trust fund.
Organisers Anja Venter and Mariaan Hendriks, the Jansen Van Vuuren family’s close allies, and Duncan Dietrich, revered rugby coach at Rustenburg High, are rallying everyone to partake.

Race details:
• 2km run: R30 • 4km run: R40 • 8km run: R50
For enquiries, reach out to Anja at 066 254 5081 or Mariaan at 079 840 2259. Secure your spot by purchasing tickets at the school prior to the event, or opt for an EFT.

Sport your most vivid shade of BLUE, Kevin’s cherished colour, and show him the wave of support.

A heartfelt shoutout to Gas Boys in Rustenburg for sponsoring water for the participants. Their general manager, Zander Hendriks, voiced, “We thrive on mutual community support. Hence, we’re more than elated to back this worthy cause!”

Lace up, Rustenburg.
Let’s run for Kevin and showcase
our unwavering community spirit!
