Buffelspoort - In a remarkable community effort on Wednesday 15 November 2023, members from Rietfontein, Grootfontein, Kromrivier, and Buffelsfontein (RGKB), alongside residents of the area, dedicated themselves to cleaning up the area around the Sterkstroom stream’s entrance to the Buffelspoort Dam conservation area.

This collective endeavour, marked by determination and teamwork, saw significant results within just two hours. Volunteers managed to collect two bakkie loads of litter, astonishingly including over 200 cans of Jeyes Fluid, Doom, and Condy’s crystals, among other refuse.

Simultaneously, the group tackled invasive vegetation. Several alien plants such as bugweed, blue gum, syringa, and lantana were not only cut down but also stump-treated with herbicide to prevent regrowth.

This clean-up operation not only enhanced the environmental health of the area but also strengthened community bonds. The success of this initiative serves as a testament to what can be achieved through communal action and a shared commitment to preserving our natural surroundings.

The RGKB extends heartfelt gratitude to all those who participated in the vital effort.
