Ensure that the MHS Act is implemented and enforced.
Building sound stakeholder relationships with the host mine.
Maintain SHEQ system for the business unit.
Perform Risk Assessments.
Advise Plant Management teams on related SHEQ issues.
Act as proxy for the Company.
Ensure all legal compliance regarding legal duties in terms of Regulation 2.17.4 of the MHSA.
Audit the safety campaign initiative, Implementation, progress, and effectiveness.
Develop, implement, maintain, and monitor adherence to health and safety standards and objectives
Thoroughly investigate accidents/incidents related to safety, health, and environmental issues, and implement corrective actions as necessary
Ensure and oversee that safety officers comply with MHSA 2.19.1 & 2.19.2
Oversee Safety Officer accident investigations and facilitate high-level accident investigations and incident cause and analysis methods
Present preliminary investigations and major loss to the client on request
Share and implement preventative measures from previous learnings
Knowledge/Education Requirement:
Grade 12
Degree in Safety Management or related field.
Relevant SHE Short-Course Certificates (such as
NOSA, SAMTRAC, COMSOC 1,2 &3)
A Diploma or Degree in Risk Management will be an advantage.
Experience and requirements:
At least 7 years’ experience as a Safety Officer/Chief
Safety Officer in a Mining/Engineering environment.
Experience in investigations, inspections, and reporting.
Safety training experience
Good administration is essential
Risk Management
Experience in working with electronic safety management systems like IMS.
A driver’s license and own transport are compulsory
